Red Carpet Hair and Makeup in Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City hosts more regional red carpets every year. Awards nights, film premieres, brand launches, press conferences. This November the Asian Television Awards return to the city, and with them come presenters, nominees and performers flying in from across Asia, usually with a manager, a tight schedule and no local glam team.
This guide is for the people who have to get them ready: talent managers, agency coordinators, PR teams and artistes travelling on their own. It covers how hotel prep works here, how long it takes, what to send us first, and what it costs.
Who we usually work with
- Visiting artistes and presenters staying in District 1 hotels for one or two nights.
- Talent and management agencies booking hair and makeup for two or more people at once, often one female and one male artiste.
- PR and event teams running a press conference, media day or photo call before the main event.
- Executives and speakers who need to look sharp on stage and in the photos that follow.
Kay has worked backstage at Miss Cosmo International, Miss Vietnam and Vietnam International Fashion Week. Red carpet work uses the same discipline: fast, calm, and built to hold under strong flash and long hours.
How a red carpet booking works
1. You message us the essentials. Date, hotel, how many people, the time they must leave for the venue, and whether there is a dress code or styling brief. A reference photo for each person helps.
2. We plan backwards from departure. If your artistes board the coach at 17:30, we work out the start time from there, with a buffer. We do not plan to finish at the last minute.
3. We confirm in writing. You get a booking confirmation in English with the team on site, the start time, the total and the payment terms. Nothing is charged before you agree to it.
4. The team comes to your hotel. Travel within central Ho Chi Minh City is included. We bring lights, brushes, products and everything needed for hair. You only need a room with a window or good light, two chairs and a power outlet.
5. Touch-up before departure. For red carpet nights we can stay until the artistes leave, to fix lips, powder and flyaways right before the car or coach. Tell us when you book so we keep the time free.
Timing: how long does red carpet prep take?
| Who | Typical time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Female artiste, full glam makeup and hair | 90 to 120 minutes | Longer for a complex updo or lashes and lip changes |
| Male artiste, makeup and hair | 45 to 60 minutes | Skin, brows, matte finish, hair set to last |
| Two people in parallel | 2 to 2.5 hours in total | Lead makeup artist plus hair stylist and assistant on site |
When there are two or more people, we bring enough hands to work in parallel. That keeps the whole group ready at the same time instead of one person waiting dressed while the other is still in the chair.
What makes makeup red carpet ready
Red carpet light is harsh. Camera flash, LED screens, live broadcast and phone photos from every angle. Makeup that looks perfect in a hotel mirror can look flat or shiny on camera. We adjust for that:
- Skin first. Thin, long-wear base, set only where needed, so skin still looks like skin in close-up.
- Flash-safe products. No heavy SPF base or high-shine powders that turn white under flash.
- Definition that reads on stage. Brows, lashes and contour placed slightly stronger than daily makeup, so the face holds from the back row and on a broadcast screen.
- Men look natural, not made up. Even tone, control oil, groom brows, hair styled to hold. The camera sees a rested face, not makeup.
- Hair built for humidity. Saigon is hot and humid most of the year. Styles are set to survive an outdoor arrival and an air-conditioned hall.
Press conferences and photo calls
Many artistes have a media session on the same trip, often the day before or the morning of the event. That is a lighter look: polished skin, soft definition, hair neat for close-up photos and video interviews. If you book the press session and the red carpet together, tell us. We can keep the look consistent across both days.

Travel within central Ho Chi Minh City is included. For events outside the city, we quote travel and accommodation as one package before you confirm, never added afterwards.
A deposit of 30% by bank transfer holds the date, and the balance is paid on the day. Kay works as an independent artist rather than a registered company, so we do not issue VAT invoices or receipts. You get a written booking confirmation instead, reissued and marked as paid once payment is complete. If your agency needs documentation for its own accounting, tell us before you book.
