Vow Renewal and Anniversary Makeup in Saigon
A growing number of couples come to Vietnam to mark a milestone: ten years, twenty-five years, or simply the honeymoon they never took. Some plan a small vow renewal at a rooftop or a riverside restaurant. Others want one beautiful photoshoot to frame at home. Either way, Saigon gives you warm light, colonial streets and evening skylines that photograph well.
The part most couples leave to the last minute is hair and makeup. In a city this hot and humid, that matters more than you think. This guide covers timing, the look, and what it costs with KINKAY.
Vow renewal, anniversary shoot or both?
Most couples we meet choose one of three plans:
- A small ceremony and dinner. A celebrant or a friend leads a short ceremony, followed by dinner. Makeup needs to last four to six hours and look good in evening light.
- A photoshoot only. Two to three hours at two or three locations around District 1 and the river. Makeup has to survive heat and wind.
- Both on the same day. Photos in the late afternoon, ceremony at sunset, dinner after. This is the most popular plan and the one that needs the most care with timing.
When to plan it
Saigon's dry season runs from roughly December to April. Rain is rare and outdoor plans are safer. From May to November, a short heavy shower often hits in the afternoon, so keep an indoor backup.
For the best light:
- Late afternoon to sunset (about 15:30 to 18:00). Soft, warm light, ideal for a ceremony on a rooftop or by the river.
- Sunrise (about 05:30 to 07:30). Quiet streets and cooler air. A good choice if jet lag already has you awake.
- Avoid 11:00 to 14:00 outdoors. Harsh light and peak heat.
December, Christmas week and Valentine's Day book up first. If your date falls then, contact us a few weeks ahead.
Choosing a look that still feels like you
An anniversary is not a wedding day. You do not need to look like someone else. Most of our clients ask for one of these:
- Soft glam. Even skin, defined eyes, a warm lip. Looks polished in photos and natural across the dinner table.
- Classic evening. A little more depth around the eyes and a stronger lip for a sunset ceremony and night photos.
- Natural and fresh. For couples who rarely wear makeup and want to look rested, not done.
Hair is always included with makeup at KINKAY. Soft waves suit an afternoon shoot. A low bun or half-up style holds better in wind and humidity, and works well for a ceremony.
If you have mature or dry skin, tell us in advance. Kay preps the skin first and uses lighter layers so the base does not settle into fine lines after a few hours. If your skin is oily, we set the T-zone and leave you blotting papers.
Do not forget your partner
Partners often skip grooming, then notice the shine in every photo. A short grooming session (skin prep, light coverage, brows, hair tidy) takes about 30 minutes and makes a clear difference on camera.

A simple timeline for a sunset vow renewal
- 13:30 Kay arrives at your hotel and sets up near a window.
- 13:45 to 15:15 Makeup and hair. Partner grooming in the last 30 minutes.
- 15:45 Photos at the first location.

For a morning plan, shift everything about eight hours earlier.
Adding an áo dài moment
Many couples want a few frames in áo dài, Vietnam's traditional dress. Our áo dài photoshoot includes makeup, hair, a photographer and the dress option. Book it as a separate morning so your anniversary day stays relaxed.
